About the Peterson Center on Healthcare
The Peterson Center on Healthcare (“the Center”) is a non-profit organization dedicated to making higher quality, more affordable healthcare a reality for all Americans. The organization is working to transform U.S. healthcare into a high-performance system by finding innovative solutions that improve quality and lower costs and accelerating their adoption on a national scale. Established by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation, the Center collaborates with stakeholders across the healthcare system and engages in grant-making, partnerships, and research.
About the Opportunity
The Center is seeking an Associate to support the Center’s existing programmatic and policy work on state engagement and data transparency, along with the development of new initiatives. This position will report to an Associate Director within the Center and support the development and management of multiple grants, partnerships, and other emerging opportunities aligned with the Center’s strategies.
The Associate will learn about project management, healthcare policy, research, and philanthropic investment by supporting the grant lifecycle from ideation and approval to evaluation and dissemination. Specific responsibilities include:
Grants Management
- Develop management and reporting processes to track status of grant deliverables, performance measures, budgets, and modification requests.
- Maintain up-to-date project management resources that facilitate effective cross-team collaboration, such as requirement trackers, SharePoint directories, and other collaboration tools.
- Regularly update his/her manager on status of grants, including on potential grant issues and project efficiencies.
- Manage and contribute to the review and quality control of grant materials and outputs, closely coordinating and collaborating with internal, external, and communications staff.
- Provide operational and logistical support by coordinating meetings, reviewing reports, taking notes, and synthesizing takeaways for senior staff.
Research and Synthesis
- Support management of research contracts to inform design, implementation, evaluation, and strategic direction of the Center.
- Conduct environmental scans of new developments, trends and perspectives related to portfolio strategy and individual investments.
- Carry out due diligence research on potential grantees and partners.
- Attend conferences and events to gather key insights from thought leaders on relevant topics.

- Ability to understand and interrogate budgets and financial reporting.
- Excellent judgment; adept at exercising discretion and tact in complex, confidential situations.
- Interest and experience in data analytics.
- A desire to learn and grow, as well as being receptive to receiving instruction, direction, and feedback.
Professional Experience
- Three or more years of experience in healthcare at a management consulting, strategy, business operations or other professional services, program or project management, or related experience.
- Experience in healthcare policy and financial analysis is a plus.
- Prior philanthropic experience as a funder or grantee a plus.
- Understanding of and interest in healthcare spending and affordability.
- In order to build productive relationships across the organization and to ensure effective collaboration, this role requires in-person presence in accordance with the organization’s hybrid schedule of working in the office three days per week (Monday/Tuesday/Thursday).
Education and Travel
- Bachelor’s degree is required, preferably in social sciences, including economics, policy, or public health and/or information sciences.
- Master’s degree in health care administration, public health, public policy or related field is a plus.
- Less than 20% travel required.
Salary and Benefits
We anticipate that the starting base salary range for this position will be $75,000 to $87,500, plus eligibility for an annual discretionary bonus. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of factors, such as skills, experience, qualifications, education, and the location in which the job will be performed. In addition, we offer an extensive benefits package to support our employees, including comprehensive health insurance, a substantial 401k match, paid time off, a hybrid work schedule and other flexible work policies.
