Can eConsults reduce commercial health spending? Learnings from an Arkansas pilot study
Last Updated August 15, 2024
The Center has published learnings from its Arkansas pilot study on eConsults.
As part of our work to identify and scale strategies to manage healthcare costs and improve affordability, in 2021, the Center launched a pilot with Arkansas Blue Cross Blue Shield and Mathematica to assess whether the positive impact of eConsults could be replicated in a commercially insured population.
By enabling primary care providers to communicate electronically with specialists, eConsults have the potential to reduce spending in commercial populations without negatively impacting quality—improving the affordability and efficiency of the healthcare system.
