NEW YORK (January 7, 2025) —The Peterson Center on Healthcare, a non-profit dedicated to making higher-quality, more affordable healthcare a reality for all Americans, is pleased to announce the appointment of three distinguished leaders to its Advisory Board: Sheila P. Burke, Dan Mendelson, and Avik Roy. Their extensive experience and diverse perspectives will inform the Center’s non-partisan mission to improve the trajectory of healthcare spending in the United States.
- Sheila P. Burke, MPA, BSN, FAAN, currently serves as senior public policy advisor and chair of the Government Relations and Public Policy Group at the law firm of Baker Donelson. Burke spent 19 years on Capitol Hill, including in roles as deputy staff director of the Senate Finance Committee and chief of staff to Senate Majority Leader Bob Dole. Thereafter, she was executive dean at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. Burke is a senior advisor to the Bipartisan Policy Center, a member of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine, and a fellow at the American Academy of Nursing. Burke brings deep knowledge of federal health policy and a focus on the healthcare workforce that will inform the Center’s strategic direction.
- Dan Mendelson, CEO of Morgan Health at JPMorganChase, brings a wealth of experience in healthcare innovation. Since 2021, he has led Morgan Health in advancing its mission to improve the quality, affordability, and equity of employer-sponsored healthcare through strategic investments, pilot programs, novel research, and advocacy. Previously, Mendelson founded Avalere Health, a leading advisory services firm providing strategy, analytics, and policy support to healthcare companies and other stakeholders to improve quality and reduce costs. Prior to founding Avalere, Mendelson served as associate director for Health at the Office of Management and Budget in the Clinton White House. His expertise in health data, value-based payment models, and employer-sponsored insurance will be instrumental in guiding the Center’s initiatives.
- Avik Roy is president and CEO of the National Institute for Health Care Management, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving healthcare through evidence and collaboration. He is also the co-founder and president of the Foundation for Research on Equal Opportunity, focusing on social mobility through freedom and innovation. Roy is recognized for his plan to achieve universal coverage through private health insurance, known as the Fair Care Act, and has served as a policy advisor to several presidential candidates. His insights on health policy and access to insurance coverage have been praised across the political spectrum, making him a valuable addition to the Advisory Board.
“We are thrilled to welcome Sheila, Dan, and Avik to our Advisory Board,” said Caroline Pearson, executive director of the Peterson Center on Healthcare. “Their diverse perspectives will support and improve our work to address the drivers of healthcare spending and build a more effective healthcare system for the country.”
